23dB Tips Packing for a Video Production Shoot

At 23dB Productions, all of our video shoots take place on location at our clients’ businesses or events. That means packing efficiently isn’t just about convenience it’s essential to delivering professional results while keeping costs manageable. Every project requires the right mix of cameras, lenses, audio gear, lighting, and backup equipment, so we’ve developed a system to stay organized and avoid costly mistakes. Here are three tips we use for keeping track of packing for a production shoot:

1. Create a Standardized Gear Checklist.

Before each shoot, we go through a master checklist that covers cameras, lenses, microphones, tripods, lighting, batteries, and accessories. Having a standardized list minimizes the risk of leaving critical items behind, no matter how routine the project feels.

2. Pack with Redundancy in Mind.

Things happen on set—batteries die faster than expected, cables stop working, or a card fills up mid-interview. We always pack extras of essential items, like batteries, SD cards, and audio cables. This small habit prevents downtime and ensures we’re prepared for unexpected hiccups.

3. Pack the Day Before.

Instead of waiting until the morning of a shoot, we load out the night before. This gives us time to double-check everything, reduce stress, and focus on the creative side once we’re on site. It’s a simple discipline that makes production days run smoothly.

With the right preparation, 23dB Productions keeps shoots efficient, cost-effective, and stress-free so our clients can focus on telling their stories.
